Cadley Hill View care home, operated by Ideal Carehomes, has recently launched a ‘Make a Wish’ programme for its residents.
Residents in the home each wrote down a wish – their perfect day. They then placed in a ‘wishing well’.
Once a month, a wish is picked from the well and granted by the care team in the home. The first wish granted was made by 87-year-old Gwendoline (Ruby) Cleobury.
Ruby, an ex-Bank Clark, wished for a full day of retail therapy! The care team organised Ruby’s shopping trip, and accompanied her to Burton on Trent. She said,
‘I love shopping, and I shopped until I dropped! It was so wonderful.’
The next month, Ruby picked out another resident’s wish from the well. She picked 97-year-old music lover, Marie Thompson, who wished for a pamper day.
When her pamper day came, Marie had a facial, got a manicure, and got her hair and makeup done. She said,
‘I feel a million dollars, and at 97 I never thought I would be so lucky. It’s like my wedding day all over again!’
The most recent wish granted came from 92-year-old avid gardener, Jean Parkes. Jean wished for a ‘posh afternoon tea’ at Chatsworth House. When Jean and the carers returned from their trip, she said,
“I was blown away. I have had so much fun, and to do something I’ve always wanted to do at my age is just wonderful. Thank you so much for doing this for me.”
Regional Director at Ideal Carehomes, Catherine Smith, said,
“Our team at Cadley Hill View started ‘Make a Wish’ to get to know our residents, and what they love to do. It’s important to us to offer our residents an active lifestyle, and make sure they feel valued in the home. It’s been lovely to hear what wishes our care team have granted – I can’t wait to see whose wish is next!”
