De Brook Lodge care home in Flixton has recently opened a brand-new Music Therapy Room for its residents.
The Music Therapy Room is a place for residents to relax and listen to their favourite tunes. Kindly donated by the local community, residents also have access to musical instruments to create their own music.
During the grand-opening of the new facility, residents were greeted by a red-carpet entrance, a glass of fizz and some delicious treats.
Local Elvis impersonator, Kev Murphy, provided live entertainment, performing classic songs by the ‘King of Rock and Roll’.
72-year-old Rosemary Turner and 89-year-old Phyllis Kermode said they ‘loved listening to Elvis’. Rosemary said,
‘The room looks absolutely beautiful. The staff have done a really good job!’
Rachel McIntosh, the Home Manager at De Brook Lodge, said,
‘We opened the Music Therapy Room because music helps provide a link to a person’s past – it can bring back happy memories. It can even unlock memories that may have been forgotten for a very long time. The majority of our residents respond well when listening to their favourite artist or song.’
