Staff and residents from West Derby care home, Larkhill Hall, were thrilled when their recent festival, Larkfields, turned out to be a raging success.
Residents and staff created the event to bring their families, friends and neighbours together, creating strong community relationships. With the help of local businesses, the home raised over £1000 for the home’s residents’ fund.
This fund provides additional opportunities for days out and trips away for the residents, which are all decided by those who live in the home. It will also help to source and purchase specialist resources such as sensory equipment and interactive screens.
During the festival, guests enjoyed a BBQ, stalls from local businesses, face painting, games and a bouncy castle.
Larkfields also hosted a Battle of the Bands competition, which saw six local performers/groups compete for a £150 cash prize and a 12-month contract to perform at Larkhill Hall.
The winners chosen by the care home’s residents were The Vibe Makaton Choir, from charitable organisation, The Vibe. The Vibe provides social and recreational opportunities for adults with additional needs.
88-year-old resident, Michael Walsh, said ‘Larkfields was fantastic!’. He continued,
‘It was great to see so many people attend, and all the little kids having so much fun. The music was great and I’m looking forward to seeing Vibe Makaton Choir come in to sing. I can’t wait for our next Larkfields Festival.’
Christina Durnan, the Home Manager at Larkhill Hall, said
‘We are so grateful to our community for helping us to make our first ever Larkfields Festival such a huge success. A huge congratulations again to The Vibe Makaton Choir – we can’t wait to welcome you back and listen to your lovely voices.’
