48-year-old carer, Kim Hunt who works at Launton Grange care home in Bicester was ‘shocked’ when she found out she had been nominated for the Carer Award in the BBC Make a Difference Awards 2023.
The BBC Make a Difference Awards celebrate local heroes who constantly go above and beyond for others, ‘improving the life of an individual or group of people by caring for them on a regular basis.’
Earlier this year, BBC radio listeners were asked to nominate local individuals who they thought deserved special recognition for their work in the community.
Having joined the team at Launton Grange in 2022 whilst also providing care for her mother-in-law, Kim was nominated by her friends and colleagues, who commended her for her genuine passion for care. Kim commented,
‘I was so shocked when I heard I had been nominated, no one has ever done anything like this for me before. All I do is care and I don’t expect anything in return.’
Kim often spends her spare time visiting the residents at Launton Grange, sitting with them for a coffee and a chat. 97-year-old resident, Barbara Marsh said,
‘Kim is a very hard worker who is always cheerful and happy. She is very considerate of us and always goes above and beyond. She is a real asset to Launton Grange.’
Kim added,
‘I treat our residents with the respect they deserve. I visit them as often as I can when I’m not already at work – I’ll always be there to give them a hug and listen to them. Launton Grange is my second home, and I really feel like I’m making a difference there.’
Stephanie Eley, the Home Manager at Launton Grange said,
‘We can’t put into words how proud we are of Kim. She truly goes above and beyond to make sure our residents at Launton Grange and the people around her feel loved and cared for.
‘Kim is invaluable to everyone who has the pleasure of knowing her, and we’re all rooting for her to win!’
The BBC Make a Difference Awards ceremony is set to take place in September 2023.
