‘This Place Really Has Saved My Life!’ – Redditch Man Thanks Local Care Home

69-year-old Adrian Guest from Redditch has been showing his appreciation for the staff and residents at Millcroft care home in Redditch, who Adrian says, ‘saved his life’.

In 2017, Adrian had a stroke which rendered him immobile for four years and affected his speech. Over the past two years, Adrian has been able to use a wheelchair with the help of his home carer but didn’t have many opportunities to socialise with others.

In December 2022, Adrian came across Millcroft care home. Millcroft had recently partnered up with Dial a Ride in Redditch to encourage people in the community to join the residents in the home for lunch each month. The Home Manager at Millcroft, Lyndsay Sard, said,

‘Our monthly lunches with the community were designed to help reduce loneliness in our area. It was wonderful for our residents to meet so many new people and form new friendships, and that’s when we met Adrian.

‘Adrian was fairly reserved when he first visited us for lunch, but since then he has become such a big part of our Millcroft family.’

Adrian now visits the residents at Millcroft every week for the home’s Chatty Café events, stopping by for a cuppa and chat. Adrian said,

‘Since coming to Millcroft, my speech has improved significantly. I am able to have conversations with others now which has also helped my confidence.

‘My mobility is also starting to improve – I was recently able to get out of my wheelchair and sit at the dining table for the first time in six years – and I have the team at Millcroft to thank for this.

‘This place really has saved my life – not to mention, the food here is absolutely gorgeous!’

Lyndsay Sard added,
‘It’s so wonderful to see how confident Adrian has become in such a short space of time.

‘We’re always looking to support the people in our community in any way we can, so if you’re feeling a little lonely or you just fancy a cuppa with our lovely residents, please pop in! Our doors are always open.’

Millcroft is continuing to invite people in the area to their Chatty Café every Wednesday from 10:30 until 13:30. All are welcome to join Adrian and the Millcroft residents for a hot drink and homemade cakes.
