Care Home Surprise Couple with Romantic Meal on 76th Wedding Anniversary

97-year-old Roy Musgrove celebrated a ‘simply amazing’ 76th wedding anniversary with his wife, Barbara, at Coppice Lodge care home in Arnold.

Roy and Barbara married in 1947 at St Peters Old Radford Church when Roy was 22 and Barbara was 19. Roy said,

‘I’ll always remember seeing my Barbara looking so beautiful on our wedding day; I still get that feeling every time I see her.’

On the day of their 76th wedding anniversary, staff at Coppice Lodge decorated the home’s vintage tearoom with balloons, flowers and rose petals, where the couple would be seated for a special romantic dinner.

During the dinner, Roy and Barbara opened a card from His Majesty King Charles III. The couple said to the team at Coppice Lodge, ‘This is simply amazing, you are all so kind to us. Thank you so much.’

Korraine Boughen, the Care Manager at Coppice Lodge, added, ‘We always do everything we can to help our residents and their loved ones celebrate these memorable milestones.

To see Roy and Barbara so happy on their anniversary was a wonderful moment, and we’re glad we could make their day so special.’

When asked their secret to a long and happy marriage, Roy said, ‘I just do as I’m told for a start! We never go to bed in the middle of an argument, we just talk everything through.’
