Thorn Springs Challenges Local School in Pumpkin Designing Competition
Residents from Thorn Springs care home in Houghton Regis challenged children from Thomas Whitehead CE Academy to design their own pumpkins as part of an Autumn competition run by the home.
150 students entered their pumpkin designs, with a winning design being picked from each year group by the residents at Thorn Springs.
The eight winning pumpkins were announced at the school’s assembly. 88-year-old Shirley Thomas said,
‘It was a great to see the children so happy and proud of what they had achieved, and to be part of the assembly was lovely. The children were all so polite.’
The winners from each year group were presented with a certificate, a gift voucher to Smyths Toys Superstore and a goodie bag filled with sweets.
Natasha Chiswell, the Head Teacher at Thomas Whitehead CE Academy, said, ‘It was wonderful to welcome the staff and residents into the school to hand out the prizes to the children, they were so excited!
‘We really enjoyed taking part, now that we have a link with the home, we hope to create more opportunities to bring the residents and the children together to build relationship within our community.’
Katie Hughes, the Home Manager at Thorn Springs, added, ‘All of the children’s designs are displayed in our entrance area to show their brilliant work. We’re happy to have such a great partnership with Thomas Whithead CE Academy and look forward to future competitions and projects.’
