Residents at Littleton Lodge care home in Cannock celebrated Australia Day by learning about the country’s history and sampling some classic Australian cuisine.
Kicking off the day with a coffee morning in the home’s vintage tearoom, the residents pulled on their cork hats and took part in a quiz on Australian culture, finding out lots of fun facts along the way.
In the afternoon, the Littleton Lodge kitchen team whipped up a three-course Aussie meal featuring pumpkin soup and dumplings, meat pie, ham burgers, vanilla slices and pavlova.
87-year-old resident, Margaret Moore, said, ‘I’ve had a wonderful time learning lots of facts and enjoying the delicious Australian food! I think it’s great to learn about other countries.’
Michelle Bywater, the Home Manager at Littleton Lodge added, ‘New experiences are a big part of the Littleton Lodge lifestyle, so we’re always looking for ways to give our residents the opportunity to learn about and try things they may never have before.
‘Our Australia Day celebrations were a big hit – our residents especially enjoyed the cork hats and, of course, the food!’
