Residents at Woodthorpe Lodge care home in Loughborough were determined not to let the unreliable British weather ruin their summer celebrations.
Having woken up on the day of the home’s Garden Party to grey skies and rain, residents and staff members were disappointed at the thought of having to cancel their fun, so they came up with a sunny solution – they would bring the summer inside!
Hanging colourful bunting, flowers and Hawaiian-themed decorations, staff turned Woodthorpe Lodge’s foyer into a tropical paradise.
89-year-old resident Margaret Moult said, ‘We loved the mocktails; they were great fun, and the singer was so amazing. It didn’t matter that it had to be indoors. We had such a good time!’
Kate Day, the Home Manager at Woodthorpe Lodge, added, ‘We don’t let anything get in the way of our fun at Woodthorpe Lodge! We want to help our residents to create lasting, cherished memories with their families and friends, whatever the weather.
‘We all had an amazing time at our indoor Garden Party, and we’re now looking forward to inviting the local community to our Summer Fete at the end of July!’
Woodthorpe Lodge’s Summer Fete will take place at the home on John Boden Way on Saturday 27th July. From 11:00, all are welcome to browse craft and gift stalls, play family games, enjoy a delicious BBQ and much more.
