Nottinghamshire care home, Rivendell View, thanked local heroes with a special giveaway launched on social media, where members of the public nominated deserving community members to receive a gift.
A flood of votes was received naming role models and pillars of the community, from which the residents at Rivendell View chose three to receive a hamper full of goodies.
The first chosen was Julie Worthington, the headteacher at Rivendell Flying High Academy for her dedication to the education of children in the area.
The second was David Murphy at It’s Inn the Bank, well-known in the community for looking after its elderly members, delivering care packages to those who might need them.
The final chosen heroes were the representatives at St George’s Community Centre in Netherfield who work to act as a voice for members of the public.
82-year-old Rivendell View resident Joyce Rowbotham said, ‘I ran a local pub for years and we always did good for the community, so it’s great to be able to thank these wonderful people for doing the same.’
Staff from Rivendell View, including Home Manager Lisa Tungate, hand-delivered each hero’s gift hamper. Lisa said,
‘It’s fantastic to be able to recognise and show appreciation for the unsung heroes in our area, and to hear such amazing stories about what these people have done to help others.
‘Thank you to everyone who sent in their nominations – we look forward to recognising more local horoes soon.’
You can meet Joyce, Lisa, and everyone at Rivendell View at the home’s Summer Fair on Saturday 27th July. From 13:00 until 16:00, all are welcome to browse craft and gift stalls, delicious refreshments, a children’s bouncy castle, and lots of fun and games.
