Residents from Brize Meadow Lodge care home and community members in Brize Norton got spruced up for Silver Sunday, a national day which celebrates older people and tackles feelings of loneliness.
For the second year in a row, Brize Meadow Lodge pulled out all the stops to deliver a ‘Silver Sunday Silver Service’ to residents and local people, which a champagne reception, three-course meals, cheese and wine, and live entertainment.
All were dressed to the nines when they arrived at the care homes in-house bar, The Poppy Inn, where drinks and lively conversation were flowing while a saxophonist played some classic renditions of the residents’ favourite songs.
90-year-old Brian Montgomery, who was the first resident to move to Brize Meadow Lodge in April 2023, especially enjoyed chatting about the life he shared with his late wife, stating, ‘if we didn’t do something together, we didn’t do it’.
Jack Tunley, the Front of House Manager at Brize Meadow Lodge, said, ‘It’s in these small moments of reminiscing that we are reminded of how important it is to reach out to those around us, create a community, and ensure no-one feels alone.
‘It’s such a privilege to be able to host events like these for our residents, and to reach out to people in the community who may be feeling lonely. All are welcome at Brize Meadow Lodge!’
