Studley Woman Celebrates 100th Birthday with Family of Five Generations

Eileen Parker from Haywood Lodge care home in Studley recently celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends, advising everyone to ‘do your best in life and help others’.

Born in September 1924, Eileen was the youngest of six siblings. The family lived in a ‘two up, two down’ house with an outside toilet, which they shared with a neighbour.

When Eileen was aged 15, WWII broke out, and she was called from her dressmaking work to assist in the making of Lancaster Bombers.

In 1944, a year before the end of the war, Eileen married her husband, William. They soon had their daughter, Elaine.

Throughout her life, Eileen has tried her hand at many vocations, including owning a news agents in Cannock, and two fish and chip shops in Dorset and Bournemouth. In 2014, Elaine moved in with Elaine to be closer to her family.

Now, at 100-years-old, Eileen is proud to have a family of five generations – her, her daughter, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild with another on the way.

Eileen and Elaine took a special holiday to celebrate Eileens 100th birthday to Hereford, where Eileen was showered with affection. Eileen said,

‘Everyone made such a fuss over me, I felt very special – it was the best holiday I’ve ever had! I even saw one of my favourite singers, James Williams, who sung ‘Come on Eileen’ just for me.’

Elaine added, ‘Mum has always made the most of every opportunity and continues to live life to the fullest, enjoying each and every occasion!’

On her return to Haywood Lodge after her holiday, the birthday celebrations continued. The home had a party, where Eileen’s family and friends came together to mark the occasion.

Georgia Cooney, the Home Manager at Haywood Lodge, said, ‘At Haywood Lodge, we want to support our residents in celebrating every milestone however they want to.

‘Eileen is such a fabulous lady and a huge part of our Haywood Lodge family – we’re so glad she had the special 100th birthday she deserves.’
