97-Year-Old Redditch Man Writes Life Story for His Family

Brian Foster, a resident at Millcroft Care Home in Redditch, has written a heartfelt and inspiring autobiography, documenting his remarkable life spanning nearly a century.

The book, which covers his life from his birth in November 1927 to his retirement, offers a poignant insight into his experiences, from childhood through to his later years, including the love he shared with his late wife, Mary.

Brian also recalls his memories of the war, which broke out when he was 12-years-old. Brain wrote about one stand-out memory:

‘I was playing in the field at the back of our house and heard a plane about the thick clouds, which were very low, then it came out of the clouds above the gas works and out came a bomb.

‘I took one look at it, jumped over the fence and into the house, under the stairs!’

The book also touches on Brian’s career at the Heywood Compressor Co LTD, his hobbies, and the many friendships he made over the years.

When asked why he decided to write his life story, Brian said, ‘I wanted to write it for my family and for myself, and so I can share my memories. I must admit, choosing what to put in was much harder than I thought.’

Lyndsay Sard, the Home Manager at Millcroft, added, ‘Brian has worked so hard writing down his memories and they are such a pleasure to read. The autobiography not only celebrates his own journey but serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving personal stories and memories.’
