Blakelands Lodge welcomes first resident and celebrates a special anniversary
A brand-new luxury care home in Marston Moretaine has welcomed its first permanent resident and celebrated a very special anniversary.
Jose Webb moved into Blakelands Lodge, on Gee View in Marston Moretaine, last month, just weeks before celebrating her 91st birthday, and has described it as “a wonderful place to live”.
Jose, who lived in St. Albans for 62 years with her husband Dennis, says she couldn’t have found a nicer place to live, “I am so lucky to have a loving family close by and the staff here are so kind and helpful, they can’t do enough for me.”
“I have three children, nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, with two more on the way. I like to keep busy and enjoy knitting for my great grandchildren. I feel very at home here and I’m very pleased I moved in. The meals are delicious and there are always lots of things so do and I also love walking in the garden.”
Another resident, Marian Palmer (88), who is enjoying a respite stay at Blakelands Lodge, celebrated her 66th wedding anniversary with husband Roy on Thursday 19th May.
Care home staff made the occasion very special for the couple by preparing them a romantic meal for two with a glass of chilled bubbly, flowers and balloons, as well as a homemade anniversary cake. The care team also created a special video to share with their friends and family of their special anniversary celebration.
Following their anniversary, Roy said: “Marian and I were very grateful for the lunch that the staff arranged for us and for all the celebrations.”
Diane Lee, home manager at Blakelands Lodge, said: “It has been a pleasure to welcome Jose to Blakelands Lodge and to share in Ma
rian and Roy’s special wedding anniversary. It is a huge privilege to work in the care sector and to spend time with our residents and really get to know them.
“Jose has settled in well and is a wonderful person to have around. She loves getting involved in all our activities and we are looking forward to having lots more fun with her and all our new residents at Blakelands Lodge.
“Marian and Roy’s anniversary was very special and we all enjoyed watching them reminisce, looking through their wedding album and re-enacting one of their original wedding day photos. We managed to get so many amazing photos which we turned into a little video which we shared with their family and friends.”
