Residents at Littleton Lodge care home in Cannock, operated by Ideal Carehomes, paid a visit to the Salvation Army recently, to donate a sack full of toys to their Christmas Present Appeal.
Each year, the Salvation Army collect new and unwrapped Christmas presents to distribute to local children who might not otherwise receive one.
This year, staff and residents from Littleton Lodge were determined to offer their support by asking their neighbours to donate Christmas toys, which people could drop off in the home on Bishop Street.
A Salvation Army spokesperson said, ‘We are very grateful to Littleton Lodge for supporting our Christmas Present Appeal. It makes such a difference to people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford Christmas at all, and to children who wouldn’t have any presents to open at Christmas without it.’
Staff and residents at Littleton Lodge took the gifts to donate to the Salvation Army church in Hednesford.
93-year-old resident, Winifred ‘Pat’ Wilkinson, who has lived at Littleton Lodge for over a year, said, ‘I have had a good 93 years and I think the Salvation Army does a lot for the children, it is important that they get presents at Christmas!”
Dan Fenesey, the Home Manager at Littleton Lodge, was grateful to their community for supporting the Christmas Present Appeal. He continued,
‘It’s that time of year where we are preparing to spend Christmas with our loved ones, and here at Littleton Lodge this got us thinking about the children who would have to go without presents this year. This gave us the idea to start asking for donations of children’s presents so that we could help make someone’s Christmas just as special as ours will be at Littleton Lodge!
‘We would like to thank everyone who helped us to support local families this Christmas, and we hope the donations put smiles on lots of children’s’ faces on Christmas morning.’
Dan and the team at Littleton Lodge are welcoming their community into the home each weekend for their ‘Cinema Saturdays’. Families can book a place every week to enjoy a film in the care home’s plush cinema room from 14:00, with complimentary refreshments and popcorn.
