Cadley Hill View care home in Swadlincote honoured their local veterans with an Afternoon Tea Party recently, in honour of Armed Forces Week.
In partnership with the Royal British Legion, staff and residents at Cadley Hill View welcomed veterans, families and friends to take in live entertainment by local singer, Rob Wilson, and enjoy a delicious homemade afternoon tea.
During the celebrations, guests watched as a flag was raised in the home’s gardens in support of the Armed Forces. They were joined by Councillor Sean Bambrick, Chairman of South Derbyshire Council.
Glyn Jackson, the Branch Secretary at Swadlincote and District Royal British Legion, said, ‘We had a wonderful welcome, yet again, by Cadley Hill View for another fantastic event.
‘It was the best flag raising we have seen, and it was great to see it flying in honour of our veterans. The tea party was also spectacular, a perfect spread and some lovely refreshments.’
Sue Harris, the daughter of 92-year-old resident and veteran, Graeme Coombes, commented, ‘The whole event was beautifully organised and it was great to see so many people taking part.’
Graeme agreed, and added, ‘It’s important to celebrate Armed Forces Day to remember all the veterans who put others first before themselves.’
Thrilled with the day’s success, the Home Manager at Cadley Hill View, David Godrich, said,
‘We’d like to thank everyone who attended our Armed Forces Day event and made the day so special for our friends at the Royal British Legion.
‘It’s so important to our residents that, as a home, we support our local veterans. To see everyone in the community come together to celebrate our Armed Forces was a pleasure, and we can’t wait to invite everyone back for our Summer Fair.’
Cadley Hill View’s Summer Fair will take place in the home’s garden on Saturday 15th July from 12:00. All are welcome to join the staff and residents for fairground themed family fun, live entertainment, games, stalls from local businesses, a bouncy castle, a hog roast and much more.
