Coppice Lodge Care Home Residents Make ‘Lasting Impression’ on Aspiring Carers
Residential care home, Coppice Lodge in Arnold, welcomed social care and nursing students from the University of Nottingham to build on their confidence and education in working with older people.
Eleven students, including first year student Holly, spent the day at Coppice Lodge getting to know the residents and leading stimulating activities like quizzes, nail painting and crafts.
Holly said, ‘The residents I met during my first placement as a year one student nurse left a lasting impression on me. I thoroughly enjoyed engaging in conversations with them.
‘This visit played a big role in boosting my confidence through talking with the residents and reaffirming my passion for nursing.’
83-year-old resident, Margaret Calladine, added, ‘What a fantastic day! The students were so nice, we had a lovely chat. It’s a great idea to boost confidence in young students, it’s really made my day.’
Another resident, 101-year-old Doreen Berridge, said, ‘It amazes me what Coppice Lodge does to help the young and the old. I had a wonderful morning with the students, and I wish them all the best – they will made great carers one day.’
Sarah Barnes, the Home Manager at Coppice Lodge, commented, ‘Working in social care is incredibly rewarding, so when we were offered the opportunity to invite students to spend a day with our residents, we couldn’t wait to show them just how gratifying a career in care can be.
‘Our residents really enjoyed talking to the students, asking them about their time so far at university and sharing their memories and experiences – it was a truly special day for everyone involved, and we look forward to seeing them again.’
