Mollie and Steve Richmond from Hambleton Grange care home in Thirsk recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
83-year-old Mollie and 85-year-old Steve first laid eyes on each other when Mollie was 17 and Steve was 19 in Helperby, and it was love at first sight.
One year later, in 1958, Mollie and Steve got married in Braferton Church. Mollie recalled a special moment on their wedding day, ‘On the day of our wedding, as we drove up the hill away from the church, we stopped the car and threw out all the confetti.’
On the day of their blue sapphire anniversary, staff at Hambleton Grange decorated the lounges where Mollie, Steve, their family and friends celebrated with a quiet lunch, followed by a party to remember.
During the party, the couple opened a card from His Majesty King Charles III and Mollie serenaded Steve, singing ‘Crazy’ by Patsy Cline. Steve said, ‘It was wonderful to be surrounded by family and friends at the celebration.’
When asked what their advice would be for a long and happy marriage, Mollie said, ‘Don’t argue’, to which Steve quietly agreed.

‘We’re so glad we were able to give Mollie and Steve such a special anniversary with their loved ones.’
