Residents at Ebor Court care home based in Nether Poppleton held their official opening ceremony for their brand new Sky Bar virtually with the help of a very special guest of honour, Emmerdale Actress, Katherine Dow Blyton who plays vicar, Harriet Finch.
The luxury Sky Bar, as named by residents, is on the top floor of Ebor Court and features panoramic views over York. Residents chose the décor which is a modern bar complete with a beer pump, wine fridge and gin rack and lavish touches throughout such as plush seating areas which will become the go-to place for special occasions and celebrations.
Prior to the launch, residents insisted that they would like to be in charge of the bar. With so many willing volunteers, Home Manager, Shane Talbot held informal ‘job’ interviews for the bar manager position and declared Anne Goodwin the official Manageress.
Ebor Court virtually welcomed Katherine Dow Blyton, who credited the care team for their fantastic work over the four week renovation period, hailing the new sky bar ‘An absolutely fantastic place to socialise with brilliant views!’. After officially announcing the launch, Bar Manageress, Anne, cut the ceremonial ribbon on behalf of Katherine.
Anne, 79, said, ‘I have always visited pubs and bars throughout my life and to have one right on my doorstep is brilliant! I am a very social person, and you cannot beat the atmosphere in a bar, can you? I am delighted to have been chosen for the manager position and I look forward to pouring the first pint! ’.
There are already many plans in place for the bar, with social evenings such as wine tasting afternoons pencilled in and even a St. Patrick’s Day party in the pipeline!
Resident, John Boorman, who has lived at Ebor Court since 2016, said, ‘I absolutely love a trip to the pub for a pint of my favourite beer and now I have a bar on my doorstep – I won’t even have to take my slippers off! I look forward to being able to sit with my friends playing cards or dominos and enjoying a refreshing drink’.
Ebor Court Home Manager, Shane Talbot, said, ‘I have been extremely excited to finally cut the ribbon and open our beautiful Sky Bar. It has been a labour of love over the past few weeks, and it was so much fun to announce what the room was going to become! Having a spot where our residents can enjoy socialising with one another and their families in the future is such an asset to our home. I know the bar will be well used and bring a smile to our resident’s faces!’.
