Former Jubilee Cup Champion Reunites with Former Golf Club Friends After 15 Years

86-year-old Brian Lawrence’s wishes came true when he returned to Droitwich Golf Club, 20 years after winning the The Jubilee Cup in 2004.

Brian, who lives at Woodland View care home in Droitwich, took up golf when he served with the Military Police. In 1977, he joined Droitwich Golf Club, soon becoming a devoted member and competed in several tournaments, including The Jubilee Cup every year.

Though Brian left the club in 2009, he often thinks of his days as a member and cherishes the day he won The Jubilee Cup.

Hearing of Brian’s cherished memories at Droitwich Golf Club, Woodland View’s Home Manager Lisa Dews arranged for a very special visit to the club.

During the trip, Brian enjoyed a delicious breakfast on the terrace whilst watching the golfers compete in the Shirley Jones Tournament. He reunited with old friends, reminiscing of their golfing days together saying,

‘It was wonderful to go back there and meet members I hadn’t seen for the last 15 years. I will always remember my days there’, but Brian never expected his next surprise…

Iain Milroy, the club captain, presented Brian with the same trophy he had won in 2004, so that he could hold it again and take a picture. Iain commented,

‘It was a pleasure to have former member, legend and past trophy winner Brian Lawrence at the club today. Brian won many trophies including the 2004 Jubilee Cup. Brian is fondly remembered and will be welcome at the club anytime!’

Lisa Dews added, ‘After hearing Brian’s fantastic stories of his golfing days and how he wished he could return to Droitwich Golf Club, we knew our friends at the club would help us make the visit one to remember.

‘It was an honour to be able to make Brian’s dream come true, and with the support of our local community, we look forward to granting our next wish!’
