88-year-old Irene Potts from Coopers Croft care home was surprised with a special afternoon tea by staff as a thank you for the kindness shown to her fellow residents.
Irene moved to Coopers Croft in March 2023, and has ever since supported other residents by offering her friendship, helping the staff to show newcomers around and making sure they settle in, and volunteering at the home’s regular community coffee morning.
As a former nurse, caring for others comes as second nature to Irene. Irene said,
‘I always wanted to care for people, so at 18 years old I decided to follow my dreams and became a trainee nurse.
‘For 25 years I worked as a nurse, as well as raising a family, looking after my home, and taking care of my mother-in-law when she was sick. It was difficult at times, but I never gave up.’
Visiting the Community Junction Café in Newcastle under Lyme, Irene and Alex Field, the Home Manager at Coopers Croft, spent some quality time chatting over some delicious treats.
Alex said, ‘Irene is such a kind and generous lady with a big heart, we’re so lucky to have her living at Coopers Croft.
‘It was our pleasure to take Irene out to afternoon tea as a token of our appreciation for everything she does. We had a wonderful time talking about Irene’s life, family, and friends.’
Irene added, ‘I feel so at home at Coopers Croft, everyone is like my family, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of having Alex to myself!’
