‘I just do as I’m told!’ – Ex-Footballer Gives His Advice this Valentine’s Day After 62 Years of Marriage
Scottish ex-footballer, Robert ‘Bobby’ Tait, is getting ready to celebrate his 63rd Valentine’s Day with his wife, June, at their care home in Arnold.
84-year-old Bobby and 81-year-old June, who live together at Coppice Lodge care home, met in 1959 at RAF Watnall where they both worked in telecommunications. June said,
‘We met, fell in love, and enjoyed the same things. We wanted to start a family, so we got married and made our life even more perfect than it was before.’
Bobby and June got married in 1961 at a church in Eastwood and started their life together in June’s hometown of Nottingham, where Bobby started his football career with Notts County Football Club. The pair later started their own family, having three children.
When Bobby ended his football career in 1968, the couple started a business running the popular Pegasus snooker club on the high street in Arnold.
In 2022, Bobby moved into Coppice Lodge and was soon followed by June, so that they could spend more time together.
The couple live in rooms next door to each other, and enjoy going on trips, doing the crossword in the newspaper, and watching live entertainment in the home together.
With seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, June said the secret to a long and happy marriage is ‘love, patience and mutual interests.’ When asked the same question, Bobby simply said, ‘I just do as I’m told!’
Rachel Squire, the Home Manager at Coppice Lodge, said, ‘It’s a pleasure to be able to support the couples who live with us to continue to share the life they built together, and we can’t wait to give Bobby and June a Valentine’s Day to remember.’
Coppice Lodge will be hosting a fine dining experience for the couples who live in the home, or who have loved ones in the home.
Coppice Lodge, located on Coppice Road in Arnold, is a purpose-built, luxury residential and dementia care home with 64 ensuite bedrooms. With an all-inclusive fee offer designed to give residents peace of mind, it is rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
