Littleton Lodge care home, situated on Bishop Street in Hednesford and operated by Ideal Carehomes, has teamed up with local businesses to mark the 76th anniversary of VE Day with a traditional British ‘street party’ style fete.
Staff decorated the new state of the art care home in British flags and other VE day decorations before holding a two-minute silence to remember the declaration of victory and commemorate the end of World War II in Europe.
The team also went ‘live’ on Facebook to join in with a rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’ which was viewed by many prospective residents and their families, who posted positive comments for the team to see.
Lifestyle Manager, Jemma Coleman, who is already planning many exciting events for the first Littleton Lodge residents said, ‘It was great to create a staff event here at Littleton Lodge, it was a great way for us to bond with one another and have some fun. It was great to go live and sing together and lots of familiar faces from our open day earlier this month hopped on to join us which was lovely’.
Once open, the care team will begin to implement Ideal Carehomes’ unique initiatives such as ‘This is Me’ which sees them dedicating time to get to know each resident and their likes and dislikes to create a completely personalised care and activities plan, tailored to their individual needs.
Home Manager, Rachel Ellis, said, ‘The Covid-19 pandemic had been likened to war experiences, and we wanted to ensure that as a team we paid our respects and pay tribute during this monumental event. I know that many of our future residents will have lots of stories of their lives throughout the war, so I look forward to hearing all about it and honouring their life histories’.
The state-of-the-art home is set to welcome new residents for short and long term placements in the coming weeks and has a host of first-class facilities including a luxurious Sky Bar, vintage tearoom complete with balcony area, beauty parlour and a plush cinema room.
