Mountview care home in Rothley, operated by Ideal Carehomes, recently welcomed award winning artist, Patricia ‘Patsy’ Whiting.
Patsy, 72, moved into Mountview care home in April 2022. Whilst talking to the care home staff, Patsy mentioned her career as a still life and figure artist and they were keen to find out more.
Patsy studied in Loughborough and Manchester, and after working as an artist and a teacher whilst bringing up her family, she began to work in Educational Audiology for Bolton Sensory Service.
However, Patsy continued to produce her art through her teaching career, developing her skills. In 2007, inspired by a trip to the Picasso Museum in Paris,
Patsy decided to leave teaching post to focus on her art again, and soon opened a studio in Loughborough.
The staff at Mountview were extremely impressed when they heard Patsy’s story, and loved her artwork. When they asked what Patsy’s advice would be to younger aspiring artist, she said:
“To improve your drawing practice every day and spend twice as long observing your subject as you spend drawing it”.
Home Manager, Stacie Weaver, said:
‘We’re so lucky for Patsy to have chosen Mountview. Our staff are encouraging Patsy to continue practising her art, and we hope she will take part in our art classes with some of our other art-loving residents very soon. Once Patsy has settled in, we may even invite the local community to join in!’
