93-year-old Doris ‘Wyn’ Lambert felt ‘very spoilt’ when her care home, Kings Court in Newark, organised a special 70th wedding anniversary celebration for her and her husband, Joe.
Wyn and Joe first laid eyes on each other when they were 18 years old, when Wyn got a job on Joe’s family farm near Bingham, and it was love at first sight. Wyn said,
‘I can recall so many happy memories from working on the farm. Joe and I loved to go dancing together. I was 23 when we got married in 1953.’
The couple married in a church in Kirkby Livingston. Wyn continued, ‘It was a warm September day, and I had a beautiful white dress. I just knew we would have a happy life together.’
The couple later moved to Balderton in Newark, and had two children, Paul and Anne. In August 2023 Wyn moved to Kings Court, which is close to hers and Joe’s family home.
Joe visits Wyn every day, where they enjoy relaxing together in the lounge, holding hands and watching their favourite television programmes.
When the pair’s 70th wedding anniversary finally arrived, the team at Kings Court invited Wyn and Joe’s family to celebrate with an afternoon tea and a homemade cake.
Wyn and Joe were surprised with cards and beautiful fresh flowers. Wyn said, ‘We both feel very spoilt!’
Tarnya Fairburn, the Home Manager at Kings Court, commented, ‘It’s so important to us that we do everything we can to help our residents celebrate these milestones in their lives, and it’s an honour to be able to share these moments with them.
‘We’re so glad we were able to give Wyn and Joe such a special 70th anniversary with their loved ones.’
