Residents from Kings Court care home in Newark were joined by members of the Royal British Legion during the official naming of one of the home’s resident areas, Poppy Fields.
The residents at Kings Court, which opened in April 2023, chose to name the area of the care home Poppy Fields after the site that the home was built on, which was originally a large poppy field.
Welcoming members of the Royal British Legion, whose emblem is the poppy, Kings Court held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the naming.
98-year-old resident, Joy Samuels, said, ‘It was a lovely day and I loved being part of the ribbon cutting.’
Carol Bryan, one of the visitors from the Royal British Legion, added, ‘A huge thank you for inviting Newark Royal British Legion to be part of your special afternoon. I now look forward to becoming a regular visitor.’
After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed tea and cake in the Poppy Fields lounge. Tarnya Fairburn, the Home Manager at Kings Court, said,
‘We felt it was very important to pay homage to the poppy field that our beautiful home was built on, and also to honour the Royal British Legion who are such prominent figures in the Newark community.
‘Our naming ceremony was a huge success; everyone had a brilliant day full of smiles and laughter. We hope to see everyone again soon during our weekly Coffee Morning – all are welcome, so please come along for a cuppa and a chat!’
Kings Court’s Coffee Morning, which takes place in the home every Tuesday at 9:30 until 11:30, is open to all. Guests can enjoy a hot drink, delicious homemade cakes and a chat with residents at Kings Court.
