Edna Warner, from Droitwich, has celebrated her very special 100th birthday at Woodland View care home.
Edna, who is affectionately known as Noddy, has always been determined to reach 100 years so that she could receive her telegram from the Queen. In fact, local postman Alan was just as excited to deliver it as it was the first telegram from the Queen that he has ever had the privilege to deliver.
The local community have also showered Noddy with birthday cards. The care home on Woodland Way set the local community a challenge to send her 100 birthday cards which was well exceeded!
Edna’s grandchildren gave her the nickname Noddy when they were little as she was always nodding off and now Edna prefers it. She was married to her husband Charles for 59 years before he passed away around 20 years ago. They have three daughters, Chris, Pauline, and Janet, who lives in Canada; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Noddy and Charles used to enjoy travelling to Canada to see Janet and her family.
Noddy retired from her job as a bank clerk at the age of 70 and moved into Woodland View care home in November 2021, shortly before her 100th birthday.
Cindy Hawkins, Woodland View’s home manager, said: “Noddy came to live here after an initial period of respite but she liked it so much that she decided to become a permanent resident. She is always busy and enjoys gardening, bird watching, and listening to her favourite band Westlife. And she always joins in our keep fit sessions.
“Noddy had a wonderful birthday and was absolutely thrilled to receive her telegram, which was proudly delivered by our postman Alan. We all made a real fuss of her on the day and her daughter Chris was also able to join us, while Pauline and Janet and their families joined in online.”
Noddy said: “My goal has always been to make it to 100 so I could receive a telegram from the Queen and it really was very special. I had a wonderful day celebrating and I was so happy to receive so many special birthday cards!”
