Phyllis and Henry Hunt recently celebrated 72 years of marriage with a very special afternoon tea party with family and friends at Thorn Springs care home in Houghton Regis.
93-year-old Phyllis, who lives at Thorn Springs, and her husband Henry met when they were 16 years old at a local calf club in Leighton Buzzard.
Having both come from farming families, the two hit it off immediately. After courting for five years, the pair married in 1951 at St Barnabas Church. Phyllis said,
‘I always knew I would marry a farmer because I came from a farming background. It was a lovely wedding; I was very happy. I just can’t believe it’s been 72 years!’
To celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary, Phyllis and Henry invited their family and friends to Thorn Springs, where the staff had decorated and whipped up a delicious afternoon tea. Phyllis continued,
‘The kindness and effort that everyone put in to make our day special was wonderful, and I always enjoy a bit of cake.’
When asked what their advice would be to a long and happy marriage, Phyllis and Henry said, ‘It’s all about give and take, and always being there for one another.’
Katie Hughes, the Home Manager at Thorn Springs, said, ‘It was a real pleasure to be able to join Phyllis and Henry in celebrating this significant milestone in our beautiful tearoom.
‘We’re always looking for ways to help our residents create lasting memories that they can cherish, and we feel so lucky to be part of those memories.’
