Lime Trees care home in Shrewsbury welcomed children from Woden Primary School’s Eco Club recently, to teach them about the eco-friendly features in the home.
The children were given a tour of Lime Trees, learning about the solar panels and the ground source heat pump technology that means the home can be operated as a Carbon Free Green home, running without the use of gas.
After their tour, the children joined together to create eco-friendly bird feeders, made from toilet rolls, lard and bird seed, to place in the residents’ garden.
The children also planted flowers in the garden before enjoying a well-deserved lunch with the residents, where the children were able to ask them about how life has changed in relation to gas and electricity since they were younger.
When the visit came to an end, the children from the Eco Club were all presented with ‘Eco Warrior’ certificates for their work at Lime Trees.
A representative from the school said, ‘Woden Primary School would like to thank Lime Trees for providing such a wonderful experience for our Eco Club.
‘Not only did the children learn about the eco-friendly environment, but they also thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the residents and creating memories. We can’t wait to visit again.’
