Sedgley Court Care Home Residents Set Sail on a Virtual Cruise Across the Globe!
Residents at Sedgley Court care home, based on Brick Kiln Way, are ready to embark on the luxurious ‘Sedgley Princess Cruise Liner’ this month thanks to the brilliant dream holiday idea from the care team. They will set sail on an exotic virtual trip of a lifetime across the globe and we’re thrilled to be wished ‘bon voyage’ from their families in a touching home video created by their friends and families who waved them off and wished them a great trip!
The care team surprised each resident with a personalised passport and ticket on board the ‘Sedgley Princess’ cruise liner, which is set to whisk them away to over 15 luxury holiday destinations from across the world from the comfort of their home.
Starting in May and lasting through till August, the ship will set sail to Cyprus, Canada, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, South Africa, India, Australia, New York, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Las Vegas, Dublin before docking once again in the UK just in time for a homecoming party.
The care team plan to surprise their residents throughout the months to find the ship has ‘docked’ in a new and exciting location as their home is transformed with decorations to match. The team will also coordinate the daily menus and activities programme to be themed on the country they have arrived in.
Some of the plans include French lessons in Paris, Wine tasting afternoons in Spain, card games in Los Vegas and Broadway Show screenings in New York. There will also be garden parties including a Tiki-themed Caribbean style BBQ with a Leis and leaf skirt dress code.
The care team will coordinate their outfits to each location and dress up in traditional attire, offering residents an opportunity to do the same with a box of fun props!
Residents’ friends and families were invited to join the ‘Sail Away’ party, from the safety of their cars and were encouraged to bring banners, honk their cars and clap as residents waved from the top ‘deck’ balcony with a traditional champagne ‘bottle smash’ ceremony!
Home Manager, Kim Dean, said, ‘I am delighted our ‘leaving party’ was such a huge success, our residents were thrilled to watch Len Goodman’s special video message too! I am so excited to see our residents faces as we dock in each destination over the summer. The dedication and commitment of our activities team to put this together is inspirational – they really have thought out every detail and it looks like we are set to have an amazing journey together!’.
