Sedgley Court gets ready to set sail on virtual Mediterranean cruise!
Residents at Sedgley Court care home, located on Brick Kiln Way in Dudley, are once again ready to embark on the luxurious ‘Sedgley Princess Cruise Liner’, thanks to the brilliant care team.
Sedgley Court held their first virtual cruise last year during the pandemic. It was so popular with the residents that the care team knew they had to plan another trip.
The care home will set sail on a European virtual trip of a lifetime on Saturday 16th July, visiting Greece, Italy Spain and France.
The care team will provide each resident with a personalised passport and ticket on board the ‘Sedgley Princess’ cruise liner.
Upon boarding the ‘ship’ residents will be greeted by the ship’s Captain, Richard Evans (Kitchen Manager at Sedgley Court), and a glass of fizz on entrance at 1pm. They can then attend a ‘sail away party’ on the deck (first-floor balcony), which the local community is welcome to attend.
Following the sail away party, residents will be able to take in some cabaret entertainment in the cinema room from 2pm. They will then be led to the dining room for a gala buffet at the captain’s table, to sample a variety of delicacies from each country they will visit.
Residents Patricia Davies and Eileen Porter, both boarded the Sedgley Princess Cruise Liner last year, for their first virtual trip around the world. They said they loved sampling different foods last year, according to each country they visited.
This year, Patricia and Eileen are looking forward to ‘getting dressed up’, and said,
‘We’re excited to have the sunny climate to go with our cruise this weekend, and to try all the different meals from other countries!’
The care team plan to surprise their residents throughout the two-week trip, ‘docking’ the ship in a new and exciting location and transforming their home with decorations to match the country. The team will also coordinate the daily menus and activities programme to be themed on the country they have arrived in.
Some of the plans include Greek themed painting, Italian history lessons and pizza making, a casino afternoon in Monaco, Spanish pottery and flamenco dancing. Residents will also enjoy sing-alongs, quizzes, film showings and cocktail parties along the way.
The care team will co-ordinate their outfits to each location and dress up in traditional attire, offering residents an opportunity to do the same with a box of fun props!
Kim Dean, the Home Manager at Sedgley Court, said,
‘We are all so excited to see our residents’ faces as we ‘dock’ into each destination over the coming weeks. Last year’s virtual cruise was incredible, so this time we’ve made it even better.
‘The dedication and commitment of our activities team to put this together is inspirational – they really have thought out every detail and it looks like we are set to have an amazing journey together!’
