Stoke-on-Trent 88-Year-Old Reunited with Decades Old Family Doll House

88-year-old Patricia Shaw from Coopers Croft care home in Stoke on Trent was reunited with her decades old doll house recently, which was lovingly decorated by her husband over 40 years ago.

Patricia, affectionately known as Poppet, bought the doll house on a shopping trip with her mother in Burslem in the 1980’s. Poppet said,

‘As soon as I saw it I wanted it. It reminded me of the dollhouse my father built me from scratch when I was a little girl. My mother was a seamstress, so she even made little curtains for it.’

Poppet carried the dollhouse home on the bus, excited to show her husband the purchase. The couple decorated it to match the childhood dollhouse that Poppet has loved so much, and kept it in the family from that moment on.

When a family member brought the doll house to Coopers Croft for Poppet, she was ecstatic. Poppet spent hours telling her carers all about the handmade features and adding new furnishings.

Sam Smith, the Home Manager at Coopers Croft, said, ‘Poppet’s face lit up when she was reunited with her beloved doll house, which is absolutely stunning! It was wonderful to hear all of the incredible memories surrounding it.

‘It’s clear that Poppet and her family have put so much care into building this family heirloom, and for Poppet to have this to admire here at Coopers Croft is really special.’
