Residents at Thirsk care home, Hambleton Grange, had a ‘wonderful’ time when they celebrated the coronation of King Charles III with their friends, families, and the community.
Guests arrived to see the care home decorated with traditional Union Jack flags and a life-size cut out of King Charles III.
Malcom Watson Classical Tenor provided live musical entertainment, singing well-known hits like Sweet Caroline and Impossible Dream before closing the show with God Save the King.
After, partygoers were treated to a buffet fit for royalty, including a coronation themed, homemade cake by the home’s kitchen team.
Reminiscing about her experience of the coronation in 1953, 90-year-old resident, Margaret McVay, said,
‘We didn’t have a television back them, so all the family went to my brother’s house to watch the coronation on his television. Some foods were still on ration, so my mother brought proper tea leaves and milk, and someone else brough a bottle of sherry!
‘I really enjoyed our coronation party at Hambleton Grange, I had been looking forward to it – I especially enjoyed the singer. I think Charles will make a good King, he’s a wonderful man.’
Sandra Anderson, the Home Manager at Hambleton Grange, said,
‘Our coronation party was a hit! Everyone really enjoyed coming together to celebrate this momentous occasion, having a laugh, and talking about their memories of the King.
‘Thank you to all who joined us and helped us to make the coronation such a special event for our residents.’
Hambleton Grange are inviting their local community to a weekly Coffee Morning in the home. Each Friday at 10:30, guests are welcome to enjoy a hot drink, homemade cakes, and chat with the Hambleton Grange residents.
