Thirsk care home residents celebrate Queen’s Jubilee with local war veterans
Residents at Hambleton Grange care home in Thirsk have enjoyed a special party to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The care home’s celebrations took place on Sunday (5 June) with a special Jubilee party, which included entertainment and a wonderful spread of jubilee themed cakes and party food. During the afternoon, every resident at the care home was presented with a very special commemorative Jubilee coin.
Two very special guests were also invited along to join in the celebrations. Local war vererans, James (Joe) Cullen and Carl Bousfield, were invited in recognition of their service to the country.
Joe, who is known as Paddy by his fellow serviceman, served as a member of the catering corp in the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment between 1963 and 1978 and was proudly wearing his regimental badge and UN ribbon, which he received in 1969.
Carl served in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers between 1977 and 1986. He was wearing medals for his service in Northern Ireland and the UN.
As well as presenting coins to its residents, the care home also presented a special Jubilee coin to Joe and Carl in recognition of their service to the country.
Hambleton Grange’s lifestyle manager, Elaine Snowden, said: “What a wonderful afternoon we had here at Hambleton Grange. It was lovely to see our home full of colour and laughter and chatter from so many visitors who came to help us celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. We enjoyed a splendid show from singer, Janie St John, followed by a bountiful feast during which we raised a glass and toasted Her Majesty The Queen.
“As part of our celebrations we wanted to take the opportunity to recognise those who have served our country and present them with a special Jubilee coin. It was an honour to show this small recognition to our two veteran servicemen, Joe and Carl.”
