Wetherby Care Home Celebrates National Winnie the Pooh Day with Local Primary School

Windsor Court care home in Wetherby recently marked National Winnie the Pooh Day by hosting a special Teddy Bears’ Picnic for students from Deighton Gates Primary School.

The event, which took place in the home’s cinema room, invited children to bring their favourite teddy bears and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with residents.

The children took part in a creative colouring session, bringing to life the characters from the classic stories, and discussing memorable quotes from the books and films.

A special moment was when everyone agreed that the most inspiring quote of the day was, “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

In addition to the activities, the children and residents spent time chatting about their school experiences. The children eagerly asked residents about the subjects they enjoyed when they were at school, and many shared stories of their own school days.

Residents appreciated the lively conversations, with one sharing, “It is so lovely to see young children visiting the home and being so interested in what we have gotten up to throughout our lives.”

Megan Pawson, the Lifestyle Manager at Windsor Court, said ‘The event was a beautiful celebration of community, storytelling, and the joy of connecting across generations. The success of the Teddy Bears’ Picnic highlighted the special bond formed between the children and residents.’
