York care home, Ebor Court, has been named a finalist in care home provider, Ideal Carehomes’, annual Gardens in Bloom competition.
Gardens in Bloom aims to engage Ideal Carehomes’ teams, residents and the local community in creating wonderful outside spaces for everyone to enjoy.
Ebor Court was shortlisted as a finalist for North Yorkshire by the Gardens in Bloom judges, who were impressed by the efforts made by the residents and their local community.
Samantha Blair, Ideal Carehomes’ Gardens in Bloom judge in North Yorkshire, said, ‘What really stood out about Ebor Courts gardens is how much love and hard work goes into it every week.
‘The residents agreed they wanted to remain ‘classy and conservative’ in their themes and choices. The theme they chose was red, white and blue in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee. With some help from the staff, they created a beautiful Union Jack flower bed.
When asked why gardening was so important to her, 88-year-old resident, June Falkingham, said, ‘Gardening is very relaxing. It’s also tiring, but that is okay because it means you sleep well which is also important!’
Shane Talbot, the Home Manager at Ebor Court, said, ‘Our gardens are so important to our residents, and we’re so proud of what we’ve managed to create as a home. A lot of our residents love to spend time pottering in the gardens, and enjoy spending time sitting with their loved ones and taking in the flowers.
‘They’ve even created a scrapbook documenting their efforts in the garden, which we now have on display in our home.’
In the next couple of weeks, the judges will decide which of the eight regional finalists will be named the Gardens in Bloom winner.
