Rachel McNally has led the team at Handley House, situated on Green Lane in Clifton, since the care home first opened its doors in 2019. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Rachel has dedicated herself to supporting her team, ensuring wellness support and guidance is always available.
The York Community Pride Awards are hosted by The York Press in conjunction with the City of York Council and are a celebration of special individuals and groups around York whose great work marks them as true champions of the community.
Rachel has been nominated for the prestigious award, not only for her dedication to providing the highest standards of care to her residents, but also for her commitment over the past 18 months to supporting the wellbeing of her team.
Rachel has implementing various wellness and appreciation days throughout the past 18 months to support the Handley House staff who have been working on the frontline of the pandemic.
She instigated a ‘Super-Hero’ themed day, where the team were encouraged to wear colourful superhero masks and capes over their uniform to celebrate their heroic work.
Handley House Deputy Manager, Angela Wightman, was touched by the superhero initiative, she said, ‘Rachel is an incredible manager and is always putting the needs of others in front of her own. The wellness initiatives have been really well received by our team and the superhero day boosted our spirits during such a difficult time in our sector. We are all incredibly proud of Rachel and wish her the very best of luck at the Community Pride Awards – she deserves it!’.
Rachel now awaits the awards evening, which will be hosted in October. She said, ‘I am honoured to have been nominated for a Community Pride Award. I really do have the most rewarding job; with the most fantastic residents and staff team I could ask for- they make it a pleasure to come to work each day. Working on the frontline of the pandemic is a very challenging role, therefore it was of the upmost importance that my entire team had access to wellness support at all times.
There are some brilliant finalists nominated for this year’s awards, with some truly inspiring stories and I really look forward to meeting everyone on the night’.
