Residents from Ebor Court in Nether Poppleton tried their hand at pancake flipping recently when they celebrated Shrove Tuesday with an indulgent feast.
Both staff and residents were challenged to perform the perfect pancake flip, before making their own pancake stacks with their favourite toppings.
Ebor Court was filled with laughter as people attempted to catch the pancake in the pan. 100-year-old resident, Irene Kean, had a wonderful time. She said,
‘Oh, I loved it, it was so much fun, and it was lovely eating them too! I do like pancakes, I sometimes used to make them for my breakfast, so it was nice to have them again with strawberries and cream.’
Irene’s friend and fellow resident, 95-year-old Olive MacDonald said,
‘I had so much fun! I always used to make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, so it was wonderful to toss a pancake again after all these years.’
In honour of Shrove Tuesday the Kitchen Manager at Ebor Court, Ian Munro, introduced an American-themed pancake stack to the home’s regular breakfast menu. The stack was drizzled with maple syrup and topped with bacon.
Shane Talbot, the Home Manager at Ebor Court, said,
‘We all had such a great time celebrating Pancake Day, and our residents are much better at flipping pancakes than our team members are! The day put a smile on everyone’s faces which is what we aim to do at Ebor Court – we can’t wait to have pancakes again.’
