The care home team at Ebor Court in York have been taking part in Ideal Carehomes’ Wellbeing Month throughout January.
During the dark, cold month of January it can be hard to motivate yourself and look after your health and wellbeing. But staff at Ideal Carehomes have been given a helping hand to get the year off to a great start with the launch of its first Wellbeing Month.
The Ebor Court staff, supported by their residents who also got involved, have taken part in a range of activities throughout the month, designed to encourage them to get active and take steps to improve their mental wellbeing and physical health. Activities have included online Zumba classes, HIIT and yoga workouts, as well as sessions on nutrition, mental health and menopause awareness. Gym and fitness discounts have also been made available for staff.
Ideal Carehomes employs over 1,300 members of staff and operates 28 homes throughout Yorkshire, the Midlands and the North West.
Susie Carman, lifestyle manager at Ebor Court, said: “Our staff have really got into the spirit of Wellbeing Month and everyone has really enjoyed it.
“It has been great fun to get our residents involved too and to join in with all the other Ideal Carehomes. It has been a great way to bring us all together and a very positive way to kick start 2022.”
Ideal Carehomes’ head of development and engagement, Sarah Colling, has created a ‘Wellbeing Pathway’ as part of their Ideal Academy which is available to all members of the team and consists of a 24 hour counselling support line, face to face stress management training, regular mindfulness techniques and advice on nutrition, exercise and ways to reduce stress and improve overall health and wellbeing.
Sarah said: “There really is no better time to start focusing on your wellbeing than January. Whether you have a goal in mind or just want to take small steps, we want to support our teams with easy ways to improve their wellbeing that will last well past January.
“The wellbeing of our staff is vital to the running of our home and, as an employer, we wanted to spend the month focusing on things that will help them to be the best version of themselves whilst having a little fun along the way.
“We are currently recruiting and are due to open further care homes over the next few years so now is the perfect time to embark on a career in social care with Ideal Carehomes. Our industry leading Ideal Academy offers our care home teams a full range of external and internal training and guided career progression with individualised personal development pathways.”
Ideal Carehomes was a finalist for Care Employer of the Year at the Great British Care Awards, as well as Commitment to Training and Development at the Caring UK Awards. The company also hosts its own Ideal Care Awards to recognise and reward team members who regularly go above and beyond.
