Residents at Ebor Court in York are thanking their community for gifting over 1,500 books to the home’s new library.
When the residents expressed their wishes for more novels and autobiographies to read, the staff at Ebor Court put a call out on social media to their friends and neighbours.
Within a couple of weeks, Ebor Court’s library was filled with every genre of book the residents could want. 89-year-old resident, June Falkingham, said,
‘I love our new library; I usually read two books a week and I can find everything I need. It’s marvellous what the staff and community have done, everyone worked so hard to get it ready for us.’
Another resident, 90-year-old Arthur Ward, added, ‘I have always enjoyed reading autobiographies and I now have a huge selection to choose from, it’s fantastic.
‘I’ve started reading Julie Walter’s autobiography, it’s very good so far!’
Shane Talbot, the Home Manager at Ebor Court, said, ‘The idea for a new library initially came from our residents, and what our residents want, our residents get!
‘We’re so pleased with our jam-packed library. Thank you to all our families, staff and community members for making our residents’ dreams come true.’
You can see Ebor Court’s new library during their Halloween Party of Tuesday 31st October. From 14:00, all are welcome to dress up and enjoy live entertainment, spooktacular games, fang-tastic treats.
